Iron Rod Johnson

Hello hello all! I hope you all had something exciting or funny happen this week! Here's an update on mine:

Monday- Not too exciting, I was still sick that day and had to get checked for strep. Luckily I didn't have it, but I was still not feeling well. My throat was feeling pretty awful and I had a cough so we cancelled plans for the evening.

Tuesday- We got to work a finding booth on ISU campus with the YSA Elders. We aren't allowed to proselyte on the campus, but we can hand out candy glued to pass along cards so thats exactly what we did! Basically we can't initiate the conversation about the church, they have too. So we xan start conversations and talk to people, and then steer it in a religious direction, but we can't outrightly say "want to hear about the church?" So it's a little different. It was fun though, the Elders manned the booth for an hour and then we took over. And we got an investigator from it! His name is Lem and he actually lives in the Elders area so we passed him on, but he seems great and was really accepting of some of our beliefs.

Wednesday- Wednesday morning was a little different. We got a call from some ladies that work at the institute at about 6am asking us if we could PLEASE come in to help prepare and serve food for the institute lunches they sell. They were really understaffed so we went and helped out, it was a lot of fun(: Later that afternoon we got to meet with our investigator Kelsey, who will be leaving for the summer. So we'll only see her one more time before she leaves. She's hilarious though and loves the gospel. She'll do well wherever she goes. That evening we headed out to Arimo to go to the Marsh Valley Institute and activity. Institute was great, we talked all about service and why service is important. It was also senior night so the graduating seniors came. They were all pretty fun, but definitely huddled together. They didn't just travel in packs, it was like an entire senior clan. Just quietly staring from the back row..I hope I wasn't like that as a senior going to YSA. They sorta warmed up by the end, and after institute we all headed outside to play ultimate frisbee. No bones were broken, no blood drawn, and our team definitely won. So it was a success.

Thursday- On Thursday we met a recent convert named Aldo and had a fun lesson with him. He's actually been taught most of the lessons so we just clarified what had and had not been taught. He hasn't been at church the last few weeks so he thought we wanted to meet because we thought he was going less active or something. He was a pretty funny. After meeting with him we got to sit down with Michael and talk more about the specifics of his baptism. It'll be really neat to get to see him be baptized. It's going to be an awesome weekend, He'll be baptized on the 12th, Sunday is mothers day (the 13th), and that Monday is my birthday! (the 14th) Pretty much a celestial weekend. That evening we got to attend the last class of mission prep before summer hits and hear from Sister McKee. She has gone through some crazy and hard trials in her life so it was really neat to hear her testimony and see how God was present throughout all of it.

Friday- In the morning we had District Meeting, and discussed help needed in our areas and how to make our areas better. We talked about specific problems we're having with investigators and brainstormed how to solve the issues, or what we needed to do to help the investigator. It was a great meeting and very helpful. Also, on a less spiritual note, Elder Johnson's mom is Polynesian, so he has a Polynesian name. Well I saw his name etched into the cover of his scriptures and asked how it's pronounced. He said it, and then told us what it meant -Iron Rod. Which is pretty cool and spiritual considering the vision Lehi is given in the Book of Mormon. (thus his name) But then Sister Ziegler was like "wait, so your name is literally Iron Rod Johnson?" Which does sound pretty funny. Even his companion was having a good time, Elder Hassell was like "Lets sing Hymn 274 to open district meeting.." Pretty much Elder Johnson's theme song. Now you understand my subject line.

That afternoon we were out contacting potential investigators and came across a girl names Erica, who is interested in us coming back! Hopefully that pans out(: We also got to eat with Bishop Reddish for dinner, which was hilarious because he kinda just states things like they are and was definitely calling out some of the YSA's haha. After dinner we got to meet with Kaylee for the last time before she leaves for the summer. (Pocatello YSA kinda empties out in the summer time because we're supplied by ISU) It was a really good lesson, we talked a lot about miracles and how god still works them today. She said she doesn't want us to pass her name on to missionaries in her area, because she needs time to think about things on her own. Hopefully she continues to recognize the miracles happening in her life.

Saturday- We finally got to our weekly planning today so not a whole lot to report. We had a lesson with Gabriel about the plan of salvation though, and discussed the parts he had questions on. Talking to him about the Plan of Salvation made me again realize how grateful I am for the knowledge that we have and for a Heavenly Father who loves us and has provided such a beautiful and forgiving plan.

Sunday- We went to the Marsh Valley Young Single Adult ward and met tons more of the YSA's down there. It was an awesome sacrament meeting and one of the speakers told his story of finding the church. Again, it was amazing to see how God is in the details of our lives and I'd encourage you all to watch for the little miracles that happen each day. I know God loves us all and wants us to be happy, and he will help us achieve that happiness.

I hope you all had a wonderful week and can see how Heavenly Father is working in your lives. I love you all!

Love,
Sister Jensen

Week 2 in YSA

Hello all! My week-

Monday! After emails we had quite the pday. We went off to get the car washed and took my first trip through a legit fancy car wash. One that pulls your car through and has all the random brushes and things that supposedly clean your car. Sister Ziegler thought it was hilarious watching me, but mind you folks, I've only gone through the small one in Afton before where you pull your car in, stop, and it sprays and rinses your car. I thought that was fancy, but nope this was craziness and i can see it freaking little kids out. An Elder later heard it was my first time through a car wash like that and was like "they don't have car washes in Oregon??" To which I responded- "Uh they do, but it rains 9 months out of the year so why the heck would I use them?" He got my point.

After the carwash we went and did groceries. First time I've been in a Walmart for 6 months!!! CRAZY. After we came back to the car...we noticed a chunk was missing. At the bottom of the passenger door, a part of the door was no longer there. Funny enough, during the car wash I thought I had heard something scrape, so we went back to see if the wash had eaten part of our car. The attendant went in and casually came back out with it, saying "yeah this happens a lot". Another reason to wash your car at home. He popped it back on for us, but It didn't lie completely flat, nor do I ever think it will. (A lot more happened, but I can really only include the highlights or this will be like a 10 page essay)

Tuesday! ZONE CONFERENCE! Whoohoo!! Zone Conference was held in the Paris Tabernacle this time. Sister Ziegler and I had to pick up the Soda Springs sisters because they are lacking a car, and then drive about an hour and a half to Paris. Fun time. Zone Conference was really good though and really centered all on sacrifice. It made me think about what I'm putting into my mission and how focused I am. I walked away feeling like there were things I need to work on for sure, but more determined to improve on them. Zone Conference is fantastic because it's like the motivational boost you need to help you through the transfer.

About 10 minutes into heading home from Paris we get a call from the Zone Leaders saying we need to check and see if another set of keys were left in our car because some elders didn't have theirs. So we pull off and start looking, and as we were on the side of the road, some elders from Afton go by and immediately pull off too. They jump out of their car and start running towards us, just as another car pulls off, the AP's! (Assistants to the President) I swear, if a missionary is down the whole road is gonna go on lock down until a bandaid is administered. It was really funny because nothing was wrong, but also really sweet to see the immediate concern and compassion of our Elders. (The keys weren't in our car, I really hope they found them, but we were never told)

Wednesday! We had the opportunity to meet with President Packer today, the Stake President over the Young Single Adult wards. He gave us some much needed advice and council on how to work with YSA wards and hopefully we'll start to see success! We also had an interesting little miracle in the evening.

We cover 3 YSA wards, 2 of which are in Pocatello, (6th & 7th wards) and one called Marsh Valley that extends from Inkom Idaho down to Swan Lake Idaho. It's huge and we spend 30 miles getting to the middle of that area alone. (We have limited miles) So since Sister Ziegler and I have hardly been in a week we wanted to go make a visit so we could meet some people out there. They have Institute Wednesday evenings, followed by an activity. We planned to go, heard it was possibly going to be some sport for the activity, but forgot our exercise clothes. We wear skirts/dresses almost 24/7 mind you. On the way we realized this and didn't know what to do. So we kinda just kept driving. As we were going there was a sign for a "Jensen Rd" so I immediately was like "look Sister, it's a sign! Literally!" Obviously we were meant to go to this activity.

We arrive at the church building and as we're walking up to the sidewalk the window of a car rolls down and we hear "Sisters! Are you ladies the Sisters serving here?" We head over and as we start talking with this older couple and girl our age rolls down her window and is like "Wait!! You're the Sisters here??! I just got off my mission! Like released today! This makes me so happy, can I come out with you to lessons??!" She had just been released and the advice she had been given before leaving was "stay close to the missionaries" and there we were! I think it was an answer to her prayers. (Spoiler, she came out with us to a lesson already on Saturday(: )

As we continued into the building some members gave us bread while we waited for the YSA's to arrive. (Sister Ziegler earlier that morning- "home-made bread sounds really good right now") When the YSA's came I was so glad to see it was a small group of about 10 people, so we weren't overwhelmed with new names and faces. They weren't particularly dressed for sports either so we played kickball, which I was quite comfortable playing. It was super fun and honestly felt like home because they were so welcoming and comfortable with each other. So it turned out to be a great and inspired night(:

Thursday! We went to an institute class with one our investigators which was really good. This is Michael, the one set to be baptized May 12th. He is so solid and goes to like all the institute classes there are. The class was very poignant, it was about the martyrdom of Joseph Smith. Very touching and thought provoking class. That evening we ate with some super fun members who made us Curry and...ha ha... Peach Cobbler. I laugh because I really don't like Peach Cobbler due to some not so great cobblers in the past, but this one was actually good and I enjoyed it haha. After dinner we went to ANOTHER class with Michael, the mission prep class. Michael is 26 and still wants to serve. He sees how important the gospel is and hopes to serve so he can help spread it to others. It was a pretty great day(:

Friday! Friday morning we went to another class with Michael, but had to leave early in order to get some study time in. We went to a room and began studying for our lesson we were going to have with Michael haha. We were both a little nervous for this lesson... So he went to general conference right? Well while there he met Stephen Southward, who is our soon-to-be mission president come July. Since meeting him, Brother Southward has kept in weekly contact with Michael. And skyped into our lesson with him this week. So many much stress but it went really well. Lol Michael just casually asked "Stephen would like to FaceTime and join the lesson too if that's alright?" THE PRESSURE THIS KIDS DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HE HAS PLACED UPON US. Oh my heck. It went really well though and Brother, (soon to be President) Southward was awesome. Haha, his camera got all misplaced so we mostly chatted with the right side of his face and his nose. It was pretty funny.

Saturday! We got to take the fresh RM Danielle out with us to a lesson and It was great. The girl we were meeting with really opened up and Danielle seemed really glad to be out with us. We had a lesson before that with a Recent Convert, to which he brought a nonmember! Random but awesome! He's helping us with the work haha. It was a good lesson and we were able to connect with her and answer her questions.

Sunday, I was sick so not fantastic. I'm still kinda sick today, but it's all good. I hope you all have a great week though, I love you all!

Love,
Sister Jensen

I Drive The Struggle Bus.

Update since transfers....

Thursday-
First day in Pocatello! I got to say some last few goodbyes before heading to the transfer site. Me and 8 other missionaries piled in and bused off to Pocatello. We arrived in Pokey, crammed everything into our car, and headed off to our new apartment. Usually I guess when you whitewash the set before will try to leave notes about all the important info you need to be aware of...we had a page talking about like 5 people and that was all. We also had like no food, but it's okay we went grocery shopping pretty quick. We had a lesson the last sisters had set up for us that night though so we headed out to meet a guy named Gabriel. He's like one of the 3 Gabriel's the sisters were meeting with before so it'll be fun telling them apart hahax)

We had a good discussion with him though and mostly got to know him and established that he believes in God and the power of prayer. It was an interesting discussion, but he seems pretty open.

Friday-
District meeting! We had district meeting with our (mostly) new district. It's awesome, we're actually a "sistrict" because the Sister out number the Elders lol. (it's still technically a District but oh well) Anyways, one of the AP's said we have one of the most bubbly districts and I think it's true. It was a pretty good time haha, the other missionaries who stayed in the area know more about the people we teach than we do, but soon we'll get there lol. The rest of the day was split between getting groceries, weekly planning, and unpacking somewhat. We also had dinner in a far part of our area...McCammon. It's like 30 miles to get out there but it's fine. We still cover it.

Saturday-
We had a few lessons and meetings today. Honestly we're like scrambling to get to know everyone so we're trying to meet with all the ward mission leaders. Anyways, so we met with a recent convert the sister s were working with and had the ward mission leader join us. He taught most of the lesson and we talked all about obedience and commandments. It was really good! Our ward mission leader actually had a cool experience, earlier in the week during his personal study he found himself studying about obedience and commandments, and then we asked him to help us teach about exactly that! The Lord was definitely helping us this week,we've found ourselves prepared for situations we weren't aware would arise. It's been pretty cool. We also met with the most golden investigator I have ever met on my mission thus far. He is set for May 12th (two days before my birthday!!) and just totally gets the gospel. It was super cool to meet him and he got to go to conference and witness the solemn assembly! And met my soon to be Mission President! (In July) Pretty cool(:

Sunday-
What a day. It was Fast Sunday, but luckily I didn't feel too hungry and was able to last. We also had two ward councils and a missionary meeting. We met a ton of people and I think my brain went a little numb. After church and all we had another missionary meeting for the stake and then ran to dinner. We also went to ward prayer where a ton more new people showed up and confused us further. Then we finally got to our studies and prepped for a lesson we have this evening.

I'm safe, I've got food, and I'm not totally insane yet. So it's all good, but my mind is fried from transfer events so that's about all I can write out right now. (The subject line is all to accurate) I love you all, I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

"[I'll Miss Wyoming] When I'm Gone"

Hello all!

Well as you can see from the subject line, transfer calls were this week. I'll touch on that more later though.

Last Monday was fun, hah. Well to start our washer was still broken so we had to make other arrangements to wash our laundry, then went off to emails. Our District leader and his comp were there and invited us to play monopoly deal with them and the Zone Leaders as a district. We thought this sounded fun, and they said it'd be at the Stake Center. Specifics are key. We got to the AFTON Stake Center about a half hour early and finished our lunch there. After they were about 5 minutes late we texted asking where they were and they said they were in the gym! We were like "wow we're dumb, they must be on the other side." Well no one was on the other side of the building. Come to find out they were at the THAYNE Stake Center and neglected to tell us that small detail. Still a fun pday though when we finally figured out where to go.

On Tuesday we had the opportunity to continue a discussion class we've been holding the past few weeks(: We teach a few ladies who are coming back to activity the missionary lessons. It's really neat because they totally dive into each lesson and we get through about 2 points of the lesson each time because they ask so many questions and are really discussing it. We started the Plan of Salvation Lesson which was really neat to get to talk about with them.

Wednesday was sort of funny. I decided to fast in the morning and as we went through the day literally everything was cancelling. So my fast wasn't looking too good. Then at about 3pm a less active lady whom I've only ever met once,  texts and is like "we made you sisters cookies, where can I meet you to get them to you?" Which is really crazy because as I started my fast I got a few hours in and thought to myself "dang cookies sound so good right now" and then later, they came!!x) And from a lady we hardly knew too!! The evening was crazy after that. We saw tons of people we really needed to see and even came across a less active thats been pushing us away in a time of real need for her and were able to arrange and stay with her as she got a priesthood blessing. Fasting is powerful. That night we had a great Book of Mormon class and when we turned in for the night we watched the Testaments which is a great missionary approved movie(;

I'm gonna skip to Friday, we had District Meeting! Transfer calls were the next day so at the end of the meeting we all made transfer predictions. Our predictions were: Sister Stott, Elder Yates, and Elder Hamblin would all stay in their areas. I would go to Pokey YSA, Elder Hassel would go to Old Town, and Elder De Oliveira would go to Alameda. (I'm including our guesses because most of them were right(; ) That evening though we ate with some members who like to give us weird oriental food to test us and while it was good, my guts hurt so that wasn't fun. In the evening we taught the Howes and had a super fun lesson with them. They were sad to hear transfers would be coming up and don't want either of us to leave. After our lesson I guess the spirit was guiding in strange ways because my guts REALLY hurt so we stopped at the Blackburns to use their bathroom and then had an impromptu correlation in which we discovered we really needed to meet with some people tomorrow. The spirit was leading usx)

There was so much more that happened, but this is already super long so I'll restrain myself. Transfer info tho...Stott, Yates, and Hamblin are all staying as predicted. Hassel is going to a Pocatello YSA area, which covers Old Town, so we got that one. De Oliveira is going to American Falls, which was thrown out as we were guessing, but we determined Alameda so we were wrong. And last but not least....I will be headed to the other Pocatello YSA area!! So we got that one too! I'll be whitewashing in with Sister Ziegler, (meaning we'll both be new to the area) and I'll be a Sister Training Leader! Crazy to think, I'm nervous but excited(:

Anyways, I love you all I hope you have a great week!!!

Sister Jensen

HE IS RISEN.

Hello hello!!

Highlights from this week-
On Tuesday we had some Bomb Chinese food so that gets an honorable mention(: On Thursday though, we got a new investigator!!!!:D His name is Tim and he's pretty setx) He and his wife told us about some paranormal activity that was happening in their house a while back, which caused them to get a priesthood blessing on the house, which quieted things. From that all he's basically like "so the church is true and now i'm going to church again, and I know baptism is something I want to do eventually" They had us over for Easter dinner yesterday which was spectacular, and we talked more about church and their impressions from conference. It was really neat to seem him recognize the spirit they felt as they listened to conference.

On Friday we went around and visited a few people, singing them an Easter song which I will put in my ukulele folder(: (it's also on Facebook) We visited an elderly man and pestered him about coming to church and watching conference. (he tells us to come back and pester him again so I think we're helping.) We caught another couple we've been trying to meet with for a while and set a return appointment, and then headed off to meet with Nathaniel again! And guess what!! BAPTSIMAL DATE!!! Whooohoooo!!! Sadly, the date is for after transfers, and I may not make it through those, but i'm happy for him!!! He's set for April 28th! I'm really excited for him, and he's such a great kid. We'll be talking about the priesthood next which he is super excited about(:

General Conference though!! Wow! I hope you all had a chance to watch at least some of it, but so much happened, you really need to go back and watch it all!! Honestly, all sessions were amazing and I got so much out of each. I thought it was fitting to realize that almost all the talks given boiled down to having Christlike love for those around you. Getting to know your neighbors, seeing when someone is struggling, and taking time to help those around you. I hope as we come away from this conference we all take more time to notice those in need and find ways to uplift them as the Savior would.

Yesterday, conference aside, Sister Stott and I had two Easter dinners which was totally not my favorite time. Both were great, and we felt like we couldn't say no to either because one was with our new investigator and his wife, and one was with a less active family we're working with still. Both were good. But holy cow, too much food is a thing and kills ya. Sister Stott and I just sorta sat a while when we got home. Neither of us wanted to move much lol.

Anyways, that was my week, i hope you all had a fantastic Easter!! Love you!!

Love,
Sister Jensen
